3DS vs PSVita
To start, here are the tech specs for those tech savvy people reading this. If you don't understand any of this just skip to the next section!
Just looking at the tech specs you can tell that Nintendo is making a little more money on each device than Sony is. Many specifications for the Vita however are up in the air until we get closer to release. Now for something normal people can understand.
The Games:
The 3DS continues Nintendo's long running streak of primarily fronting first party titles, with this E3 promising Super Mario, Zelda and even Luigi's Mansion 2. Titles like these guarantee that the system will have some great games on the horizon. After an admittedly mediocre set of launch titles, these announcements are welcomed with open arms. The recent launch of the Nintendo eShop bolsters the amount of titles available, with new Virtual Console titles and DSiWare games coming regularly. Third party support seems to be one of Nintendo's new goals for both of their new platforms (3DS and WiiU), whether they'll live up to expectations is uncertain given Nintendo's track record.
Sony's new handheld is looking to be a powerful little device, as the Uncharted: Golden Abyss demo has shown. With a touchscreen to match the 3DS, and a new addition, the Rear-Touch Panel (heh), Sony seeks to match Nintendo on market. Third party developers have embraced the console, with games such as Modnation Racers, Little Big Planet and Ruin showcasing the abilities of the device. Vita will be usable with Sony's Playstation Network, which may be a deal breaker for some given recent events. Just like the 3DS, Vita will be able to play PSP titles (although no UMD support, so downloadable games only), and also PS1 games will continue to be playable.
Both platforms carry a great amount of potential, but which is right for you? Truth be told, casual gamers may get everything they want on either console, but would likely do better leaning towards the 3DS. While both consoles are capable of sleep mode breaks in between play sessions, the 3DS keeps it simple for players of all ages. Nintendo has stuck to their tried and true DS design that is applicable for all ages. Sony appears to be pushing for more hardcore gamers, with the Vita replicating the PS3 experience while on the move. It is hard to make a direct comparison at the moment, as many factors for the Vita, such as battery life remain unknown. However, the second half of 2011 is looking to be a great time for handheld gamers.
