GamersGate: An ad based solution for pc gaming

GamersGate is an ad based gaming service for Window's PCs and Mac. We haven't heard much about the product but we are assuming that this means that you will view an ad and then be able to play a game. I really hope that the ads don't appear in the middle of playing a game like during hulu's videos. I think a good place for ads would be loading screens. According to GamersGate most of the ad based profits will go straight to the game studio. This sounds good especially to an aspiring game developer like myself.
But what are they trying to do with this? Of course the first thing that comes to mind is video game piracy. This is the market they are trying to get. They will have to get some big titles on this new service that people would usually pirate instead of buy. Facebook style games will not get people to use the service. We will have to see more about it when it gets released in mid June. Until then we will keep you posted.
